Illustration Friday and Meat in a Tree

I'm posting this in Illustration Friday under the theme,"Return."

This illustration, entitled "Jailbird In My Treehouse" is based on a story idea I had about an escaped convict who awkwardly befriends a little chubby loner girl with glasses. She brings him plenty of the red meats that sustains a hardened criminal, and he, in return, provides interesting company and prison-inspired life lessons.

  2. This is really adorable, creepy, but adorable! I have so many questions, what medium is this, how did you get the texture in the sky and what is your shadow color?

    1. Haha, well thanks. It is a traditional pencil drawing that has been scanned, and colored with Photoshop. The texture is done with a watercolor brush I downloaded, and I changed the scatter settings. I also put in a textured background I found online over the pencil drawing layer, and put the layer setting on multiply. Maybe it sounds more complicated than it is, its pretty simple actually!

  3. Oh my! All that red meat! I hope he appreciates that little girl character's generosity and I hope he likes his steaks raw. What fun! Quite a different kind of story with a great illustration. Well done.
I have a feeling she likes ice cream and cheesecake.

PS - Thanks for coming by my blog and for checking out my IF attempt this week.

  4. Haha. That would be a good lesson for every girl.
I thought your style looked really familiar and just realised I saw your work on Illustrators Agency website! I really like your work (I'm one of their newbies), and thought you inserted the humour in perfectly in every illustration of yours.

  5. Hilarious concept! He's a bit intimidating AND takes up the whole cubby - don't think I'd be going up there....
